The North West Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force, in partnership with HSE Social Inclusion, last night took part in a Pilot Project with Sligo ATU, Code Blue medics and Sligo BID in order to provide harm reduction information on the student Christmas night out. This collaboration was part of the Safer Night Time Economy delivered by Sligo BID and Sligo County Council. The objective for the Task Force going forward is to work closely with the student body in Sligo ATU to provide much needed information in relation to harms of drugs and alcohol particularly for event nights out.
Task Force volunteer team provided drink toppers to help prevent spiking, water and key torches. The Care in the Square pilot provided a series of 3 tents which had a safe space to wait while being collected. First aid was provided by Code Blue, while Task Force Outreach staff engaged with anyone who needed advice or signposting on drug and alcohol harms.
Huge thanks to all involved. In particular the Task Force Team which included Outreach support from Waypoint North West, Sligo Foroige Youth Drug and Alcohol Project, Social Inclusion staff team and Addiction team lead Sligo. Looking forward to working with this group again in the future as the feedback has been well received by the student body.
