SUPPORT WORKER, WHITE OAKS REHABILIATATION CENTRE, DONEGAL

Dermot Mc Donough is the Support Worker funded by the NWRDATF in White Oaks Rehabilitation Centre who manages and implements programmes for residential aftercare. Whiteoaks provides a 37 day residential treatment programme based on the Minnesota Model for people addicted to drugs and alcohol. Through one to one counselling, group therapy, lectures and spiritual practices, individuals are encouraged to live creative, productive happy lives. Individuals commit to a weekly aftercare programme when they leave treatment. The centre also provides family therapy while the client is in treatment. YOUTH DRUG & ALCOHOL WORKERS – LEITRIM, SLIGO AND DONEGAL

Foroige were awarded with the tenders to provide youth drug and alcohol workers for Counties Sligo and Leitrim and Donegal (funded by the NWRDTF) Jack Cavaliero  (Leitrim) and Katie Murtagh (Sligo) and Lauren Cleary (Donegal) are responsible for developing and supporting a community wide approach to drugs education ensuring the involvement of young people and their parents in the design and delivery of drug education progammes.

ASSERTIVE OUTREACH WORKER – DONEGAL

Mary Healy Vernon is the Addiction Outreach Worker based in Letterkenny CDP START project, who provides information, advice and treatment, for adults with addiction issues (18 +), to help them access a range of treatment, through existing services and initiate community-based programmes of care to reduce the harm caused by addictive behaviours. Karen Gallen , Outreach Drug & Alcohol Support Worker works alongside Mary covering outreach in Donegal County.

Letterkenny CDP START Project provides confidential, non-judgemental support, treatment, guidance and education to those with addiction issues, their families, and the community, enabling them to cope with the effects of addiction in their everyday lives. The overall aim is to address a common trend in recent years of an increase in the number of adults who have developed problematic addiction issues in Letterkenny and the surrounding areas, using a more flexible community based holistic approach and sound scientifically proved interventions, to support community members to make better, lifestyle choices, improving their health and wellbeing.

ASSERTIVE OUTREACH WORKER – SLIGO

The aim of the project is to increase the awareness of substance misuse among the communities of Cranmore and the North Ward and to assist individuals, families and these communities in reducing the harms caused by alcohol and drug use.

SUBSTANCE MISUSE WORKER WITH THE HOMELESS IN SLIGO

Christine Hanley is the Substance Misuse Worker for the homeless in Sligo based in Sligo Social Services. She provides assessment, support and an outreach service in relation to substance misuse to those experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in Co Sligo. THE STRENGTHENING FAMILIES PROGRAMME

SFP programme and facilitators who have been trained by the course developers (Dr K Kumpfer, Dr H Whiteside). The Strengthening Families Programme is an evidence based life skills training programme. It emphasises the critical role of families in prevention and reducing risk. It is designed to build on protective factors by improving family relationships, parenting skills and improving young people’s social and life skills. It also reduces the risk factors for behavioural, emotional, academic and social problems. The programme is available to families experiencing difficulties who would like family life to be less stressful and more rewarding and who are also open to trying new skills to tackle old issues and problems. NORTHWEST TRAINING & EDUCATION

The North West Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force (NWRDATF) in partnership with Donegal Education & Training Board (Donegal ETB) offer a variety of courses in drug and alcohol related training. The courses on offer are best suited to those in the following areas: social care, family support, employment support, vocational training, criminal justice, probation, education, housing support and general health care services, among others. Please note that there is the option of requesting tailored “ in-service’ training for services and organisations – requests will be accommodated to the best of our ability where possible. THE YOUNG MENS PROGRAMME

The aim of the service is to support Sligo Traveller men and their families in the community who are affected by drug & alcohol misuse.

COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMMES – SLIGO, LEITRIM & DONEGAL

Community Employment (CE) is an employment programme funded by the Department of Social Protection. The aim of CE is to support people who have been long term unemployed to return to work by providing participants with work placements and training opportunities.

There are 10 places earmarked for individuals recovering from substance misuse and referred to a place on CE. Each participant will be supported by the CE Supervisor and by Sligo Social Services, Substance Misuse Worker on their individual journey on the programme.

1. Participants will have the opportunity to partake in project work placements and work experience opportunities in Sligo. Individual Learner Plans will be developed by the participant and the CE Supervisor to give the opportunity to work towards a range of learning options from Major Awards to industry based awards.
2. Participants are employed on a part-time basis (19.5hrs per week). The rate of payment for new applicants based on 19.5 hours worked will be the equivalent to your existing DSP payment plus a €22.50 participation bonus with a minimum payment of €210.50.
3. Through work placement and training, participants can enhance existing skills and/or develop new skills in an employment area which they have no previous experience or training in.
4. Participants are supported to progress into main stream employment or education during/after their CE placement.
