The North West Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force hosted a Youth Consultation Event at the Abbey Hotel Donegal Town on the 14th of December 2016 which included the participation of some local schools in South Donegal. The North West Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force in partnership with Donegal Youth Service and our Youth Drug and Alcohol Outreach Worker Foroige ran a series of workshops at this event.
The need for a Consultation Day was highlighted at the Joint Policing Committee in Donegal where they asked the Task Force to help run an event for youth but by the youth in Donegal. Donegal Youth Service pulled together a focus group to ask young people what they would like to discuss in relation to Drugs and Alcohol Awareness. The workshops below covered the items raised by the focus group:-
What drugs mean to students;
Exploring Peer Pressure;
Exploring thoughts about Drugs;
What services are available locally and sign posting for help;
All of the above information was collected in a confidential environment and was facilitated by experienced Drug Prevention Staff.
