When someone is ready for treatment it can be a lifeline to recovery. The user must be ready to change, the motivation to do this must come from them. One treatment programme does not suit all so try talking to your GP or even a project worker. It may be a stepping stone to another service pointing you in the right direction. The service you need will depend on the type and quantity of drugs you have been using and, of course, the willingness to change the behaviour. You may find the directories for Donegal Projects or Sligo/Leitrim Projects helpful.

The White Oaks Centre in Donegal specialises in alcohol, drugs and gambling rehabilitation and is located in Donegal. You can access their website here or dowload their brochure here.

Opiate based drug dependency such as Heroin which is physically addictive will need to be treated by giving a substitute synthetic substance. For more details on programmes for this, please contact Charter House, Old Market St, Sligo (Tel: 071 9140409) or 9 St Eunan’s Court, Convent Rd (Tel: 074 9128769) in Letterkenny.

Counselling is another form of treatment and can be a great help for members of the family who are supporting those using drugs, for example CBT.  Here is a free Self Help Course which you may find useful. More information is also available on this website, including a free mp3 self help download.
